Week #5: Podcasting
Jerry: You mean she was asking me to wear this ridiculous shirt on national TV, and I said 'Yes'?!
Kramer: Yes, yes! You said it!
Jerry: But, I - I didn't know what she was talking about. I couldn't hear her!
Jerry wouldn't have had this problem if he'd just used Twitter to talk to the low talker.
But now we're on podcasting. I'm thinking: wouldn't a podcast of the puffy shirt have made a lot of sense for Jerry's low-talking girlfriend?
I am pleased to now know what podcasting actually is. Before this week's training, I heard people talk about podcasts, but did not know how they worked. I can see where they would be very useful in many ways. Because I do not use a portable device to listen or view anything while away from my computer, for the most part streaming video meets my needs quite well. However, I appreciate my greater understanding of internet audio/video options.
I believe it is beneficial to me now that I know more about podcasts if a patron asks about them. I cannot remember ever being asked about podcasting, and I suspect that most people subscribing to and downloading podcasts are doing them at home without our assistance. Creating podcasts for library information or training could be very useful in a work context.

I used to download and listen to podcasts of This American Life while walking the dog.
ReplyDeleteI dunno, I bet Low-Talker wouldn't have had the sound up loud enough when she recorded her podcast. Jerry still would have had to moan, "But I don't wanna be a pirate!"
